Tarana is located in the beautiful Tarana Valley just over the Great Dividing Range, two hours drive from Sydney or less then 30 Minutes from Lithgow.

It is the former junction of the Oberon Branch railway with the Main Western Line. This branch line was notable for its steep 1 in 30 gradients and sharp 100 m curves.

The Tarana Hotel is a regular drink and grub stop for tourist flights. With its landscaped beer garden and walls crammed with mementos of times past, the Tarana is a friendly little inn that welcomes visitors.
